1955 400 - Ed and Tanya Johnson
Back
in 1998 I flew to
California
to pick up a 55 DeSoto convertible that Tanya had bought. While I was
there the seller had a 55 Packard 400 for sale. It was not in great shape
but I offered him quite a bit less than he was asking. Not too much later
I got a call and the car was mine. I again flew down to drive my prize
home. It made it to
Portland
before I had trouble but got her patched up and finished the trip.
Shortly
thereafter I decided to restore the car and contracted with Walt Johnsen to do
the job. We worked on the car for about 6-7 months doing a complete frame
up restoration. The plan was to have it done for the Packard 100th
anniversary concourse in
Ohio
. We shipped the car and flew down and were thrilled to take a first
place award. Later that year we took two firsts at the Port Gardner
Concourse in
Everett
. We also took best post war Packard on the national tour and one or two
more since then.
The
car runs like a dream and we have toured in
Canada
several times with the club. I’m falling behind on maintenance but have
the todo list posted!
